5 Off the Beaten Track Attractions to Visit in Lanzarote
Lanzarote draws many holidaymakers because of its exceptional all-year round climate, turquoise waters and miles of sandy beaches.
Here are our top 5 off the beaten track attractions that Lanzarote has to offer, to make your trip unforgettable…
1) Discover the Mountains of Fire
Timanfaya National Park is home to the Montanas del Fuego or Mountains of Fire, which were formed in the early 18th century. During this time, more than 100 volcanoes erupted and destroyed over 50 square kilometres of land on the west coast of the island.
Access to the park is strictly regulated so it’s not possible to walk freely among the volcanoes. However, there are free guided walks (available in English) along two paths. Entrance to the site includes a coach tour of the volcanoes with an audio commentary. It’s also possible to arrange a tour by camel.

2) Take a trip in a yellow submarine
One of the many activities available on Lanzarote holidays is taking a trip in a yellow submarine.
The submarine safari operates from the marina of Puerto Calero and explores the marine life around Lanzarote’s volcanic coast.
The submarine, Sub Fun Tres, has two large viewing windows at the bow and stern, as well as 22 large viewports. It dives to a depth of 30m and can accommodate 48 people comfortably. An on-board guide points out the unfolding flora and fauna as you go.
The trip lasts around an hour and a free shuttle bus operates from all the major resorts on Lanzarote.

3) Escape the crowds
A great option for some peace and quiet is exploring the tiny island of La Graciosa.
Just half-an-hour’s ferry ride from Lanzarote will take you to the quiet village, Caleta del Sebo, with a handful of whitewashed house. There are no hotels, very few vehicles and no roads. Here, you’ll find quiet beaches, azure sea and a handful of waterside fish restaurants.
Try El Girasol on Calle la Popa for fresh seafood – the vieja, or parrotfish, is a speciality. Or take a seat at Café Mesón de la Tierra and enjoy its wonderful views of the harbour.
4) See The Green Lagoon
The colour of the green lagoon, otherwise known as the Green Lake (Lago Verde), changes throughout the day. Found on the south west coast of Lanzarote, the Green Lake formed in the crater of an old volcano and owes its colour to the algae that grows there.
Since Lago Verde is found on the west side of the island, it’s the ideal location to watch the sunset, especially as the area becomes quiet at night.
5) Taste Lanzarote wine
The wine region of Lanzarote is located in La Geria. The region gives you the opportunity to sample the many types of wine that the island produces.
Rest assured, bus tours to La Geria are available to book in the resorts, so nominating a driver won’t be a concern. Instead, everyone in your party can enjoy the taste of fine wine.
