Floods and earthquakes are common natural disasters in Japan.
If you're abroad and a natural disaster strikes, your first point of contact should be your airline, tour operator or travel provider. They can help you with getting home or moving you to safe accommodation. You can find the most up to date travel advice on the FCDO website.
If you're due to visit an affected area and wish to change your holiday dates, you should speak to your travel provider. They'll guide you on whether you can reschedule your trip or possibly give you a refund.
Make sure you check the FCDO’s travel advice before you go on holiday and while you’re away. Your travel insurance will be made invalid and you won’t be covered for cancellation if it was public knowledge that your destination was unsafe to travel to when you travelled.
