We know that travel insurance can look complicated at first. Your travel insurance is there to give you peace of mind when you’re on holiday, so you want to get it right.
To make the complicated bits easier to understand, we’ve written this guide of things to consider before you buy your cover, and how to choose the right policy for you.
Your travel insurance is there to cover you for unexpected events and emergencies that can crop up while you’re away.
Whether you live with a pre-existing medical condition or not, a medical emergency could strike at the time you’re meant to be enjoying yourself. Staysure travel insurance can cover up to unlimited medical expenses, so you can travel with peace of mind, knowing that should you need medical treatment, you’ll have our help to put things right.
Then there’s things going wrong on holiday like lost luggage or a stolen passport. Flight delays, cancellations and even having to cut your trip short. Without travel insurance, these things would be expenses that you’d have to fork out for. But with a tailored travel insurance policy, you can be covered if the unexpected strikes before your trip or while you’re on your travels.
All travel insurance policies include coronavirus cover at no extra cost. So you’ll be covered for COVID-19 related claims just as long as you’ve declared your pre-existing medical conditions and the FCDO say it’s safe to travel to your destination.
When you buy your travel insurance is entirely up to you. By buying your single trip travel insurance as soon as you’ve booked your holiday, you should be covered for cancellation in case something goes wrong before you travel.
With a Single Trip Travel Insurance policy, cover for cancellation starts at the time you book the trip or pay the insurance premium, whichever is later. Single Trip policies from Staysure can be bought up to 24 months in advance of your holiday.
If you buy an Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance policy, cancellation cover starts from the date you choose to start your policy. This will be shown on your Validation Certificate, which you’ll receive after buying your travel insurance.
A Staysure Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance policy can be bought up to 90 days before the start date you choose.
Before buying travel insurance, we recommend keeping up to date with the latest government travel advice.
We have no upper age limit on both our Single Trip Travel Insurance and Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance policies. We don’t see age as a barrier for enjoying your holiday with confidence.
Children under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult over the age of 18 for the duration of your trip.
Repatriation is part of your medical travel insurance and is there to help if you need to be flown home from your holiday destination after a medical emergency.
Both of our travel insurance policy options include repatriation cover. Our Our Basic Travel Insurance policy offers cover for up to £5 million while our our Comprehensive Travel Insurance policy offers unlimited cover for repatriation.
If you live with a pre-existing medical condition, it’s important to cover it with your travel insurance. To add a pre-existing medical condition to your policy, you’ll need to go through our simple medical screening process. The medical screening is a few straightforward questions we’ll ask about your health and any medical conditions you have before you get your travel insurance quote.
Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) is a Government levy that applies to all insurance policies. Currently in the UK, travel insurance qualifies for 20% tax. This tax is not to be confused with Value Added Tax (VAT).
To be covered by your travel insurance policy, your travel must always start from the UK.
How long you can travel for with your travel insurance will depend on your age, destination and the type of policy you’ve bought.
Single Trip Travel Insurance can cover you for up to 104 days, which is over 3 months, with no upper age limit.
Cover may be extended up to a maximum duration of 550 days, which is about 18 months, with our Long Stay Travel Insurance depending on age and destination.
Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance policies can cover all trips in a year, as long as the total time on your trips does not exceed 183 days (which is about 6 months) with a standard maximum single trip duration limit of:
Your Staysure travel insurance policy won’t cover you for any business or voluntary work.
It’s important that you make sure your travel insurance policy covers what you need, for your claim to be valid if you needed our help further while you’re on holiday.
There is no requirement for travel insurance and passport details to match. In the event of a claim we will need to establish that the person making the claim is the person insured with us, but the passport is not essential to that process.
A couple for travel insurance is: you and your wife, husband, civil partner or partner who lives with you in a relationship for at least six months at the same address as you, regardless of gender.
On an annual policy, insured adults can travel independently.
Travelling as a family? You may be wondering how many people can be listed on one policy and what is counted as a family for travel insurance.
We see family for travel insurance as:
AND
This includes children living away from home in full-time education.
Single parent travel insurance covers one adult, and all of his/her unmarried, dependent children (including adopted, fostered or step-children) under the age of 18 (or under the age of 21 in full-time education), living in the same household, including children living away from home in full-time education.
We don’t see age as a barrier when it comes to travelling with peace of mind. Both our single trip and annual policies have no upper age limit, including seniors.
Your tailored travel insurance policy for seniors can cover the pre-existing medical conditions you may have, and give you the reassurance that should you need to unexpectedly cancel your trip, you should be covered for cancellation up to your policy limits.
If you choose to travel alone on your group, couple or family annual travel insurance policy, you should be covered.
Just make sure your policy covers you individually, for any pre-existing medical conditions you may have, and the destination you’re travelling to is covered by your annual travel insurance policy.
The difference between choosing a single trip or annual policy is how often you’re planning on travelling, how long you’re planning on travelling for and where you’re going on holiday.
With an Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance policy, you will be covered for multiple trips in a 12 month period. You can buy your policy up to 90 days before you want it to start.
A single trip policy will cover you for one return trip and can be bought up to 24 months before you travel.
Both our single trip and annual policies have no upper age limit.
